The Iran Quandary

ayatollah_ali_khameneiI took it on the chin a little for my last post about Iran. I stand by my assertion that the West is largely tuned out of what’s going on over there despite the harrowing images we see and the inherent beauty of the struggle.

When Tiananmen Square happened, did you recognize what was happening? When the spotlight is shined on Chinese human rights violations, do you consider the impact you have by purchasing Chinese made goods? The question is: Would you choose to financially enable a regime whose practices you disagree with? Since 1989, Wal-Mart has expanded worldwide. In 1989, Wal-Mart made just over $1B. If ≠ Then

I feel like I have a tough row to hoe because of this prevailing misconception that all Conservative minds think alike and opposite of Liberally-minded types; at least in the realm of Talk Radio.  The brilliance of this craft of communication is that it rewards extremists, which irritates a lot of us who think about what said extremists are saying.

Here’s me in a nutshell.  I’m a Conservative voting, fiscally responsible, less government, gay accepting, charity-minded, self-motivated, compassionate guy.  But because the first thing I put down was “Conservative,” I’ll likely be tarred with a common brush by certain myopic types.  Here are two reasons why that sucks: It creates a destructive stereotype and it stunts the intellectual growth of the public, much like The Hills does.
