Alright. It’s time to write about the CBC. I’ve been avoiding this for a few reasons, some more obvious than others. But something happened over the weekend that makes me want to weigh in on this contentious issue. And I’d like to preface this by saying, on record, that I like and value the CBC.

As you may or may not know, the CBC recently approached the government (yes, the Harper government) to ask for “bridge financing” to get the MotherCorp through this economic bummer. One big issue was that “bridge financing” sounded too much like “bailout” for a lot of Canadians, this meager blogger included. The good news is that the money never made it to the Communist Broadcasting Corp. The bad news is that the Ceeb announced 800 job layoffs shortly after.

This has spawned much discourse about the value of the CBC and the role of the CBC in our nation. And the role of our nation in the CBC. Something was said over the weekend that made me finally want to write about the Ceeb. Read the rest of this entry »
